Mepham honors Luke Lang at senior games

Today was a great day at Mepham High School!! We had an honored guest come out to our games. Five year old Luke, who was recently diagnosed with Leukemia, was scheduled to be at the start of the boys game but after a spinal tap and blood transfusion, ended up getting there after the first inning. It didn't matter much to anyone that he was late, he was welcomed by both teams and all the spectators with a heartwarming round of applause. He then took the mound with both teams lining the in-field and threw a great pitch. He hung out with the boys in the dugout for a bit then went off to watch the girls play. The Varsity Softball team wore shirts in Luke's honor with 'Love4Luke' on the front and 'Losing is not an option' along with their team number on the back. The team designed, ordered and paid for these special shirts all on their own. The team led by Marina Monello and Christina Riebl also ordered and sold t-shirts to raise money for Luke that will be presented to him and his family on June 30th at Mulcahy's in Wantagh. Luke's mom Jeanine is a graduate of Mepham along with his dad Rich were overwhelmed by the show of support. Fran Monello
