New York American Water Partners with National Association of Water Companies to Provide Scholarships for High School Students
MERRICK, N.Y. – New York American Water is offering four $2,500 scholarships to high school seniors as part of a program for students interested in pursuing a career in the water utility industry or related fields. Students eligible for the grants live in a New York American Water service area, and will be attending a university or college in New York. The scholarship program is being offered as part of an outreach effort by the New York Chapter of the National Association of Water Companies (NAWC,) of which the Company is a member.
“We are proud to support the annual scholarship program with the hope of encouraging our students to pursue a career in the water industry and are passionate about science,” said William Varley, President of New York American Water, and Chairman of the New York Chapter of NAWC. “The tremendous personal and professional growth shown by our previous scholarship award recipients ensures a promising future for our nation’s water services.” This scholarship is being offered to high school seniors in New York American Water’s service areas who meet the following criteria:
- United States citizen
- New York resident for five years, and resides within New York American Water’s service area: Atlantic Beach, Baldwin, Baldwin Harbor, Barnum Island, Bay Park, Bellmore, Cedarhurst, East Atlantic Beach, East Massapequa, East Rockaway, Glen Head, Harbor Isle, Hewlett, Hewlett Bay Park, Hewlett Harbor, Hewlett Neck, Inwood, Island Park, Lakeview, Lawrence, Lynbrook, Malverne, Meadowmere, Merrick, North Woodmere, Oceanside, Roosevelt, Roslyn Harbor, Sea Cliff, Seaford, South Hempstead, Valley Stream, West Hempstead, Wantagh, Woodmere, Woodsburgh and parts of North Merrick, North Bellmore, Levittown, Massapequa, Old Brookville, Roslyn Harbor, Glenwood Landing, and Glen Cove
- High school senior planning to pursue (part- or full-time) an undergraduate degree at a college (two- or four-year) or university in New York State.
- At least a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 GPA grading scale
- Enrolling in a curriculum related to the water utility industry or similar field such as natural resource management, environmental sciences, biology, chemistry, engineering, computer science, environmental law, etc.
To enter, students must return a completed application, along with their high school transcript and three letters of recommendation to the New York Chapter NAWC postmarked no later than April 1, 2013.
