North Bellmore Students Collect a Ton of Candy for the Troops

The students collected nearly 2,000 pounds of sweets to send overseas.

Students in the North Bellmore School District collected nearly 2,000 pounds of candy that will be sent to troops overseas for the holidays. The successful Candy for Troops drive began just after Halloween, and ended in early December.

Jerry Harrington, a parent at Saw Mill Road Elementary School who works in the airline industry, picked up boxes filled with treats from the schools and brought them to a regional airport. The candy will make its way to members of the military in Kuwait, Qatar and Afghanistan.
