North Bellmore Welcomes State Education Leaders
The Education Commissioner, Regents and more came to the district for discussions of school issues.

BELLMORE, NY - From the North Bellmore School District: The North Bellmore School District welcomed New York State Education Commissioner MaryEllen Elia, Regent Roger Tilles and State Sen. John Brooks on April 19 to discuss school funding.
They met with Board of Education President Peter Mayo, Vice President Melissa Cmar-Grote, Superintendent of Schools Marie Testa and other members of central administration. Ms. Testa provided a comprehensive presentation highlighting the fact that portions of the state aid formula calculations for North Bellmore are not keeping pace with the actual expenditures. In addition to reviewing relevant data and demographic information, Ms. Testa indicated that the North Bellmore residential community bears approximately 93.4 percent of the tax burden needed to fund the district’s annual budget. Additionally, she spoke with the
education leaders about programs, and highlighted accomplishments and future goals for North Bellmore schools.
“We are very grateful that Commissioner Elia, Regent Tilles and Senator Brooks took time out of their busy schedules to visit North Bellmore, and we look forward to continued meaningful and productive conversation with our state educational leaders,” stated Ms. Testa.
