Bellmore Jewish Center Announces Merger Forming Congregation Beth Ohr

The Bellmore Jewish Center Congregation Ohr Zarua, a Conservative, egalitarian synagogue which has been an integral part of the Bellmore community since 1959, is proud to announce that Congregation Beth El of Massapequa will be joining their family. Congregation Beth El, which has an equally long history in the Massapequa area, will be enriching the already vibrant Bellmore Jewish community with the addition of their members. The merger has been approved by New York State and will be effective on July 1, 2016. The synagogue’s new name, Congregation Beth Ohr which translates to House of Light, represents a joining of the names of the two original temples and seeks to recognize how the new entity will carry on the heritage of its two parent synagogues.
