Prosecutors Charge Nassau Postal Carrier With Stealing Mail
Authorities say they recovered a year's worth of undelivered mail from his Nassau home.

A Bellmore postal carrier whose home was raided by inspectors on April 3 has been officially charged with stealing mail, authorities say.
According to a sworn affidavit released today by the U.S. District Court, Richard A. Schaaf, Jr., a postal carrier who worked in Bethpage, had dozens of bags of undelivered mail in his Bellmore home.
Prosecutors say that they received a tip that Schaaf, who has been working as a postal carrier in Bethpage since April of 2016, was keeping large volumes of undelivered mail at his house. Investigators arrived on April 3 and were given permission to search the home, where they found the dozens of black garbage bags filled with mail.
