Nassau County police are looking for a man who scammed an elderly North Bellmore woman out of thousands of dollars last week.
According to police, the 83-year-old woman received a phone call at her home at 4 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 2 from a man who claimed he worked for Microsoft. He told the woman that her computer had technical problems and needed immediate work. The man convinced the woman to purchase gift cards totaling more than $11,000 and give him the gift card codes for him to redeem over the phone.
After not receiving any services, on Wednesday, Aug. 7, the woman realized she had been scammed and called a family member, who then notified police.
