School Concerned Mask Mandate Could Lead To Parents Protest

The North Bellmore School District says some parents may be "planning to protest" the decision to wear masks as school starts tomorrow.

NORTH BELLMORE, NY — The mask mandate set forth by the state's Department of Health and being followed by most school districts is not embraced by everyone.

The North Bellmore School District is cautioning families that "some parents may be planning a protest at arrival on September 1," an email, obtained by Patch, said.

While the school district is respecting the rights of people to protest peacefully, the school wrote the gathering is not permitted on school grounds.

The school district, led by Superintendent Marie Testa, reiterated the school policy in the email. They will have a mask available for anyone who needs one.

Any children who have been instructed to enter the school without a mask, "we will kindly escort them to a separate location, provide them with a learning activity and contact their parent/guardian for pick up."
