The Bayou has been in North Bellmore since 1986, and it provides a New Orleans style food and drink experience.
Patch recently conducted a Q&A with Lisa Livermore, the restaurant's owner, about her business.
Patch: How did your business come to be?
Lisa Livermore: New Yorkers needed a place to experience what New Orleans is all about!
Why did you choose the Bellmore area?
Bellmore was chosen because of it's central, easily accessible location in Nassau County.
What do you offer your customers?
We offer our customers an authentic New Orleans dining and drinking experience.
What do you want to be best known for?
We are known for our delicious authentic New Orleans food, drinks and quirky, fun Bourbon Street atmosphere. We are also known for our friendly service. Some our regulars have been coming for 27 years!
What's your most popular product or service?
Our most popular drink is, by far, The Hurricane. Originally created by New Orleans Bar Owner Pat O'Brien, a mixture of rum and passion fruit that will blow you away!
As far as food, we have a wildly popular set menu and blackboard specials that change weekly. We have Cajun food that is melt yer mouth off hot and Creole food that is more mild and sophisticated. A Cajun dish that is very popular is Blackened Steak...a grilled sirloin flame seared in a fiery blend of Cajun herbs and spices topped with a smokin' hot jalapeno gravy.
A popular Creole dish is Pan-fried catfish....which is a catfish filet pan-fried in a crawfish, mushroom and scallion cream sauce, over rice. I have never had anyone say the catfish is not one of the best things they have ever eaten! Check out our menu on the web....we always have Gumbo, Crawfish, Cornbread, Grits, sweet potato fries, cold Abita and Blackened Voodoo Lager Beer and so much more!
