South Bellmore Civic Provides Improvement Updates

Editor's Note: This article was written by representatives of the South Bellmore Civic Association.

The town recently granted our request and put up a new Newbridge Park Sign on Merrick Road.

We have also requested the removal or replacement of the unused NY Times dispenser on the corner by the Post Office. The town has also committed to clean three shopping centers (King Kullen Shopping center, side of Stella's Pizza and next is Kwak's Bait & Tackle).

New Recycling Bins have been installed at Ellen Road Park and Randy Lane Park. SBCA wrote a letter to the Town requesting permission for the use of Ellen Road Park for an end of summer Picnic. The date will most likely be August 24 (rain date 25). We need acommittee to help with the picnic. They would help hire entertainment for the children, face painters, etc. Let’s get to know our neighbors!

In our continuing effort to beautify Bellmore, SBCA wrote a letter to Bellmore Plaza Shopping Center asking if they have plans to update their facade (status TBD). We have asked the County to clean Sunrise Highway in Bellmore and Merrick on both sides. Weare also moving ahead with installing planters at the Post Office. We would love a few volunteers with a green thumb.

We are also continuing to follow up with Danny Lino at the Parks Department regarding the feral cats at Newbridge Park and how to best deal with the situation.
