Top Spring Athletes 2011

A look at the best athletes Bellmore had to offer.

Both the Mepham and Kennedy sports programs had solid spring seasons.

There were a number of players to consider in this countdown, but here are the eight players that had the biggest influence on their teams.

8. Billy Ruvolo (Mepham baseball): The clean-up hitter was a big bat in the Pirates order. He came up with big hits for Mepham and was tied for the team lead with two home runs.

7. Vin Moryc (Mepham boys lacrosse): Moryc was the Pirates most consistent goal scorer and helped Mepham win its first league game in early May.

6. Zac Shuldiner (Kennedy boys lacrosse): Shuldiner was a vital piece of Kennedy's three-piece attack and led the team in goals.

5. Carly Thea (Kennedy softball): Five home runs and vocal leadership both on and off the field. She is headed to the University of Pittsburgh to play softball for the Panthers this fall.

4. Victoria Gunnels (Mepham softball): Led the Lady Pirates with four homes runs at the plate and picked up eight of her team's 12 wins on the mound.

3. Noah Shulman (Kennedy baseball): His five home runs led the team and Shulman went on an insane 9-for-11 stretch en route to a three-game sweep of Long Beach in April.

2. Morgan Kitton (Kennedy girls lacrosse): Was able to score on command for the Lady Cougars and netted an incredible eight goals in a win against Great Neck South early in the season. Led the team in points.

1. Cristina Olson (Mepham girls lacrosse): Olson was a patient senior captain with amazing vision on the field. She led the team in goals and assists and finished ranked 15th in the county in total points.

Honorable Mention: Ashley Appel (Mepham girls lacrosse); Kerri Baum (Kennedy girls lacrosse); Justin Harrison (Kennedy baseball); Claudia Law (Mepham softball); Toni Marie Valeriano (Mepham softball); Heather Hulkower (Kennedy softball); Andrew Brancato (Kennedy boys lacrosse); Matthew Gavigan (Kennedy boys lacrosse).
