Truck Sheared Off Highway Overpass: Fire Marshal

Several agencies helped remove the compressed natural gas-powered tractor-trailer from the Southern State Parkway.

NORTH BELLMORE, NY — A tractor-trailer got wedged on a Southern State Parkway on Monday night.

The incident happened at the Oakfield Avenue bridge on the westbound side of the highway near Exit 25.

The North Bellmore Fire Department contacted the Hazardous Materials Response Division of the Nassau County Fire Marshal's Office.

The vehicle was a compressed natural gas-powered tractor truck, the fire marshal's office posted on Facebook.

The uppermost cylinder had been sheered off of the vehicle and suffered a catastrophic failure when it hit the overpass.

New York State Police, Nassau County Police Emergency Services Unit and the Wantagh Fire Department HazMat also assisted in freeing the truck.

The truck was safely removed with towing and a recovery contractor also needed, the Facebook post added.
