Weekly Recap: Southern State Crash, New Superintendent, FD Saves the Day

  1. One Killed in Southern State Parkway Crash: One person was killed in a one-car crash on eastbound side of the Southern State Parkway between exits 24 and 25 at approximately 4:30 a.m. Monday, State Police told Patch.
  2. Bellmore-Merrick CHSD Names New Superintendent: The Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District (CHSD) announced its pick for the new superintendent of schools at a board meeting on Wednesday night. 
  3. North Bellmore FD and Weinman’s Come to the Rescue at St. Mark's: Back in February when St. Mark's church bell rang for the last time before the silence of the Lenten Season, the bell rope coincidentally broke. It seemed like there was quite a bit of time before Easter to get it repaired, but somehow the rest of February and most of March disappeared and Holy Week was suddenly upon us! 
  4. Park Avenue Teacher Nominated in KJOY Contest: Ms. Amanda Dimonda, who teaches fifth grade at Park Avenue Elementary School, has been nominated for the KJOY Teacher of the Month contest for April.
  5. Calhoun Raises More Than $60,000 for St. Baldrick's: Calhoun High School recently hosted its seventh annual “Chop Your Locks for Charity” event to support the childhood cancer research.
