Who's Who in Bellmore: Maureen Garvey

  1. What do you do for a living? Director of the Bellmore Memorial Library
  2. How are you involved with Bellmore? The Library belongs to the Chamber of the Bellmores, so in addition to my duties at the Library, I generally attend Chamber meetings. The Library participates in the Street Fair as a Chamber member. The Bellmore Historical Society meets at the Library, as well as other civil groups. We host meetings for local politicians. And, most recently, in the wake of Sandy, we were a warming station for residents who had lost power, and worse.
  3. What’s the best thing about Bellmore? The people. I think the residents of Bellmore are generally warm and friendly. It is a great pleasure to work at the Bellmore Memorial Library, and interact with Bellmore residents.
  4. How did you end up in Bellmore? Obviously, my job.
  5. What do you do for fun? I read, walk my dog, dance, watch TV, cook, eat out, and in the summer, go to Jones Beach as much as possible.
  6. Tell me about your family. Do you have any children or grandchildren? I have four children and four grandchildren.
  7. What are your favorite places in Bellmore? Again, obviously, the Bellmore Memorial Library. There are several restaurants and retail stores that I went to before I worked here, and still patronize. I’ve been shopping at Gennaro’s and going to the Bellmore Theatre since I was a teenager.
  8. Finish this sentence. You know you’re from Bellmore when…You have a Bellmore Memorial Library card and use it!
