Arrest Made In Hit-And-Run That Critically Injured Pedestrian
The driver surrendered to police and is charged with leaving the scene, detectives say.

BELLMORE, NY — A woman crossing Sunrise Highway was struck by a vehicle Monday night and is in critical condition. The driver of the car that hit her fled the scene, but turned herself into police a day later, police said.
The crash happened just after 10 p.m. Monday at Sunrise Highway and Bedford Avenue, police said.
The 20-year-old pedestrian, who police did not identify, suffered severe head trauma and was taken to an area hospital.

The driver, Ashley Martin, 26, of Lindenhurst, surrendered to police, just before 11 p.m. Tuesday, police said. She is charged with leaving the scene of an accident with serious physical injury. She is due to be arraigned on Wednesday in Hempstead.
