Star Legends of the Haudenosaunee

Long before modern astronomy, the night sky served as a living map of history, science, and cultural values. Join us at the Martz-Kohl Observatory for a captivating presentation on the rich oral traditions and star knowledge of the Haudenosaunee (Six Nations). Guest speaker Ja:no’s Bowen—a member of the Seneca Nation Beaver Clan, Faith Keeper of the Cold Spring Longhouse, and dedicated Indigenous language advocate—will use visual storytelling to reveal how familiar celestial patterns, such as the Pleiades, continue to guide and pass down generational wisdom.

Whether you prefer to join us live at the observatory or stream the event online via Zoom, all are welcome to attend this free presentation. In-person guests will have the chance to meet our astronomy team, participate in a Q&A, and tour the facility. If the weather cooperates, we will wrap up the evening with public viewing opportunities through our large-aperture telescopes!
