16-Year-Old Girl Shot After Physical Altercation: PD

CENTRAL ISLIP, NY — A 16-year-old girl was shot and injured after a physical fight among teenagers in Central Islip on Wednesday, Suffolk County police said.

At bout 11:45 a.m., two groups of teenagers were involved in a physical altercation on Anne Lane in Central Islip, police said. After the fight broke up, the groups split and left in two separate vehicles.

While sitting in the backseat of a Toyota Camry, the 16-year-old, who was present during the altercation, was shot in the shoulder near the intersection of Oakland Avenue and Evergreen Avenue, at about 11:50 a.m., police said.

She was taken by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
