3 Children, 2 Adults Injured In Suffolk School Bus Crash: Police

A minivan crashed into the school bus full of elementary school students after running a stop sign, police say.

BRENTWOOD, NY - Three elementary school students and two drivers were injured after a school bus crash in Brentwood on Wednesday morning, according to Suffolk Police.

A woman was driving a school bus northbound on Madison Avenue and a man, identified as 33-year-old Reynaldo Alvarez of Central Islip, was driving a Ford minivan eastbound on Barleau Street when he failed to stop at a stop sign and the vehicles collided at 8:26 a.m., police said.

The bus was occupied with children from North Elementary School in Brentwood.

Three children on the bus were transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip for treatment of minor injuries.

The bus driver and Alvarez were both transported to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore for non-life-threatening injuries.

Alvarez was issued a ticket for unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and failure to stop at a stop sign, police said.
