84-Year-Old LI Man Fatally Shoots Wife, Then Himself: Cops

BRENTWOOD, NY - Suffolk Police are investigating a murder-suicide that occurred in Brentwood on Thursday morning.

Officers responded to a home on Barleau Street at 9:25 a.m. following a hang up call to 911 from that location.

Upon arrival, officers found 79-year-old Rosemary Paul, a resident of the home, who died from a gunshot wound inside the house, police said.

Her husband, 84-year-old James Paul, also a resident of the home, had also been shot and was transported to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore where he was pronounced dead.

After an investigation, detectives determined James shot his wife before shooting himself.

It's the third murder-suicide in Suffolk County since June. Last month, a 90-year-old man shot his 90-year-old wife to death and then killed himself inside their Ronkonkoma home.

In June, a 69-year-old Lake Grove man killed his wife in a car and then killed himself inside their apartment, police said.
