“On behalf of the board of education and myself, we congratulate Mr. Coggiano and Dr. Canlé on their new appointments,” Superintendent Sharon A. Dungee said in a statement. “I am excited to see the great work from both these amazing leaders.”

Coggiano brings extensive experience to the position, including his tenure as principal of Reed Middle School and prior administrative roles with Eastern Suffolk BOCES. District officials highlighted his student-centered leadership style and long-standing impact within Central Islip.

“Mr. Anthony Coggiano is a dedicated and student-centered leader whose deep experience and commitment to supporting all learners have made a lasting impact in our district,” Dungee said. “His thoughtful approach, strong relationships, and ability to lead with both compassion and purpose position him to continue strengthening our Special Education and Pupil Personnel Services.”

Coggiano said he is honored to step into the role and emphasized his commitment to collaboration and student support.

“This opportunity means so much to me, both professionally and personally, and I am deeply committed to serving our students, families, faculty, and staff with compassion, dedication, and heart,” he said. “I believe strongly in the power of connection, collaboration, and kindness, and I am excited to work alongside all of you to ensure every student feels supported, valued, and able to succeed.”

Canlé most recently served as assistant principal at O’Neill Elementary School for the past four years. His background also includes experience as an assistant principal, AIS instructional coach, grade-level chair and classroom teacher in Brooklyn and Valley Stream.

“I extend my sincere gratitude to all who have supported my journey and am excited to get started," Canlé said.

In his new role, Canlé will oversee implementation of New York State standards in English Language Arts, social studies and Academic Intervention Services, as well as support the district’s professional development plan in collaboration with central administration.

“I am humbled to serve the Central Islip School District in this new capacity as the Director of Humanities and am thrilled to support all students with equitable, data-driven and culturally responsive pedagogy,” Canlé said. “I am committed to supporting all teachers and administrators through meaningful professional development, collaborative data practices, and a clear focus on student-centered outcomes.”

District officials described the position as a key step in strengthening curriculum and instruction across schools.

“Dr. Andrew Canlé is an innovative and passionate educator whose commitment to academic excellence and equity has consistently elevated teaching and learning in our district,” Dungee said. “His expertise, collaborative spirit, and forward-thinking vision make him exceptionally well-suited to lead our humanities department.”

Both administrators thanked district leadership and the Board of Education, and said they are eager to begin their new roles and continue supporting Central Islip students and staff.

“I look forward to listening, learning, and growing as we continue to strengthen and expand the programs and services that make a difference in the lives of our students every day,” Coggiano said.
