CENTRAL ISLIP, NY — A man was arrested after stabbing a relative during a late-night argument in Central Islip, according to Suffolk County police.
Police said Dashaun Simmons, 39, was inside a residence on Connetquot Avenue arguing with a 34-year-old male relative on May 3 when the dispute escalated. During the confrontation, Simmons stabbed the man before fleeing the scene around 10:30 p.m., police said.
The victim sustained a laceration to his torso and was transported to an area hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
Third Precinct patrol officers located Simmons nearby and took him into custody about 15 minutes later, around 10:45 p.m., police said.
Simmons was charged with second-degree assault, police said. He is scheduled to be arraigned on Monday at First District Court in Central Islip.
