CENTRAL ISLIP, NY — Central Islip School District voters approved the district’s proposed $316,732,594 budget for the 2026-27 school year on Tuesday and elected three members to the Board of Education.
The budget passed 690-240.
The approved spending plan represents a $15,233,609 increase over the current year’s $301,498,985 budget, or 5.05 percent.
District officials said the budget reflects a 0.04 percent decrease in the tax levy from the 2025-26 school year, remaining within the district’s allowable tax cap. The property tax levy decreases from $94,438,632 to $94,398,356.
District officials said the budget maintains existing programs and services while making strategic investments in student learning, technology and future readiness, including continued support for the district’s 1:1 device initiative.
The district said key cost drivers include increases in special education, transportation, employee benefits and charter school tuition. Despite those pressures, officials said the spending plan preserves programs while prioritizing investments that directly affect students.
According to district documents, the budget includes $244,916,833 for program costs, $39,161,290 for capital costs, and $32,654,471 for administrative costs.
The district projected $208,779,238 in state aid, up from $194,405,353 this year. Local revenue was projected at $10,055,000, while the district planned to use $3.5 million in appropriated fund balance.
Capital Projects
The budget includes a $5.25 million transfer to capital for districtwide facility projects.
District documents said projects may include classroom air conditioning at Cordello, Morrow, Mulvey and O’Neill elementary schools; front entrance and auditorium upgrades at Central Islip High School; gym floor upgrades at Reed Middle School; interior and exterior upgrades at Alfano, Cordello, Morrow, Mulligan, Mulvey and O’Neill elementary schools; and softball field irrigation.

Voters also elected three members to the Board of Education.
Leida Morales received 565 votes, Michele Harriott received 512 votes and Jeffrey Rosado received 484 votes, securing the three available seats.
Harriott is an incumbent.
Ralph Delgado Jr. received 475 votes, Mark Hunter received 239 votes and Jessica Banda received 170 votes.
