CENTRAL ISLIP, NY — The Long Island Ducks' championship season received another honor Tuesday when Suffolk County Executive Ed Romaine declared Oct. 6 "Long Island Ducks Day" in Suffolk County.
Romaine joined members of the organization at Fairfield Properties Ballpark, where the Ducks clinched the 2026 Atlantic League championship last month. The title was the fifth in franchise history, following championships in 2004, 2012, 2013 and 2019.
"The Ducks had an incredible season and are champions both on and off the field," Romaine said. "Not only did the Ducks have a historic run in 2026, but they have been a staple in our local community for the past 26 years by bringing nearly 10 million fans of all ages to the ballpark."
Romaine also recognized starting pitcher Nick Margevicius, who was named the 2026 Atlantic League Championship Series MVP, and QuackerJack, who was named the league's 2026 Mascot of the Year.
The Ducks finished the regular season with an Atlantic League-best 80-46 record and a .635 winning percentage, the highest in franchise history. They then swept the Hagerstown Flying Boxcars in the North Division Championship Series and the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs in the league championship series, completing the first perfect 6-0 postseason run in franchise history.
Long Island clinched the championship Sept. 25 with a 7-2 victory over Southern Maryland at Fairfield Properties Ballpark. Margevicius pitched all nine innings in the deciding game, allowing two runs on seven hits and striking out five.
