A ribbon-cutting by the Board of Education and a spirited Green Machine Marching Band performance highlighted the celebration of ongoing athletic facility upgrades in the community.
2. Daniel Gomez, of Brentwood, pleads not guilty in death of Erik Ermanovics in hit-and-run on Sunrise Highway (newsday.com) — A Brentwood resident has pleaded not guilty to a felony charge of leaving the scene after a crash that killed a man on Sunrise Highway in Lindenhurst. Prosecutors say the 65-year-old driver left, later returned briefly, then went to work before police found his damaged car and obtained a written statement about the incident.
3. Brightway Living & Learning's Walk And Wellness Festival raises over $85,000 – The Long Island Times (litimes.org) — A major autism-support fundraiser just took place at Suffolk County Community College's Brentwood campus, where Brightway Living & Learning's Walk and Wellness Festival raised over $85,000. Families and supporters joined an indoor walk, received health screenings and vaccines, and helped expand educational, residential, and therapeutic services for local children and adults with developmental disabilities.
4. Security concerns persist as mail theft complaints top 800,000 nationwide (news12.com) — Mail security in our area is under scrutiny after a surge in theft complaints and a major Suffolk County mail-fishing case. When reporters checked local post offices, they found visible surveillance cameras at only two locations, including Brentwood, leaving many residents worried about how well their mail is protected.
