BRENTWOOD, NY — Brentwood High School implemented precautionary safety measures during dismissal Wednesday afternoon after receiving a threatening phone call indicating an intent to cause harm, district officials said.
Suffolk County police and the district's safety team responded to the threat on Nov. 4 and implemented safety protocols to protect students and staff, Superintendent Wanda Ortiz-Rivera said in a letter to families and staff.
"Out of an abundance of caution, Suffolk County Police and our District Safety Team immediately implemented our established safety protocols and took the necessary precautions to protect our students and staff," Ortiz-Rivera wrote.
Following an investigation by Suffolk County police, the threat was determined to be not credible, according to the superintendent. Suffolk County police told Patch Wednesday evening that no additional information was available regarding the incident.
"Throughout this situation, our teachers and staff remained focused on protecting and supporting our students, who demonstrated remarkable maturity and composure during a difficult situation," Ortiz-Rivera wrote. "Please know that the safety and well-being of our students and staff remain our highest priority. We take every threat seriously and will always take the necessary precautions to protect our school community."
