Brentwood Breast Cancer Walk Honors Survivors, Raises Scholarship Funds
More than 500 attend Brentwood walk dedicated to Elizabeth "Lila" Marrero, supporting awareness and student scholarships.
BRENTWOOD, NY — More than 500 members of the Brentwood community gathered on April 18 for a breast cancer awareness walk to honor survivors, remember loved ones, and raise scholarship funds for local students.
This year’s event was dedicated to Elizabeth “Lila” Marrero, a close friend of Board of Education President Eileen Felix and a well-known community member who died April 8. Organizers said the tribute added a meaningful and reflective tone to the day.
Three local survivors with deep ties to Brentwood gave remarks during the walk: Michael Landesberg, executive chef and partner at Jackson Hall Bar & Grill; Delia Melendez-Leon, a Brentwood alumna and high school math teacher; and Jessenia Mejia, a Brentwood parent and motivational speaker.
