Brentwood Man Fatally Shot Unarmed Victim With Shotgun, Gets 18 Years: DA
Romero Campbell fatally shot 29-year-old Joshua Jasmin during an argument outside his Brentwood home, prosecutors said.

BRENTWOOD, NY — A Brentwood man was sentenced Friday to 18 years in prison for fatally shooting a 29-year-old man during an argument outside his home in 2024, Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney said.
Romero Campbell, 26, pleaded guilty in September to first-degree manslaughter in connection with the death of Joshua Jasmin, 29, of Brentwood, prosecutors said.
According to court documents and Campbell's admissions during his guilty plea, Campbell and Jasmin were engaged in a verbal dispute on the front lawn of Campbell's home on Charter Oaks Avenue at around 6 p.m. on Aug. 30, 2024.

During the argument, Campbell fired two shots from a shotgun, striking Jasmin in the torso, prosecutors said. An eyewitness who observed much of the confrontation reported that Jasmin was unarmed.
Responding officers searched Campbell's property and recovered a shotgun standing against a kitchen doorway and a spent shotgun shell on the kitchen floor, prosecutors said.

Campbell was arrested at the scene without incident.
Jasmin was taken to South Shore University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, prosecutors said.
Campbell pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter, a class B felony, before Acting Supreme Court Justice Karen Wilutis on Sept. 17.
Campbell was sentenced Friday to 18 years in prison, followed by five years of post-release supervision.
"The defendant caused the senseless death of a 29-year-old victim over a disagreement that should have ended with words and not gunshots," Tierney said in a statement. "Nothing will return Mr. Jasmin to his loved ones, but this sentence ensures that the man responsible for his death is held accountable."
