Central Islip Elementary Students Welcome Sen. Monica Martinez For PARP Reading

The New York state senator visited students as part of the school's PARP (Pick a Reading Partner) celebration.

CENTRAL ISLIP, NY — New York State Sen. Monica Martinez visited Cordello Elementary School in Central Islip as part of the school’s PARP (Pick a Reading Partner) celebration, reading to two classes on Friday, March 13.

Martinez read “Of Thee I Sing” by former President Barack Obama, a story written to his two daughters that encourages them to dream big while honoring those who came before them.

The book highlights several historical figures, including George Washington, Jackie Robinson, Georgia O’Keeffe, and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

During her visit, Martinez read to Jessica Falk’s second-grade class and Brianne Hamblin’s fifth-grade class.
