Central Islip High School students in Mrs. Roann
Roderick's Science Research Class are expanding their knowledge and
talents in advanced science research techniques and projects. Zachary
McCann and Catherine Bell are working on extracting biodiesel from the
microalgae species, Scenedesmus, and are comparing the process and
quality of biodiesel extracted from macro algae species. The macro algae
species on which students are now conducting their research, were
collected at David Weld Sanctuary in St. James during the Summer Science
Research Program. Pavana Khemra, Osaretinmwen Oriakhi, and Aniyah
Clarke are pictured by the Stereomicroscope, and also by the "green"
tank working on the effect of an herbivore diet versus a carnivore diet
has on the heart rate of Ghost Shrimps.
