Morrow
Elementary students are learning about the Central Islip Community's
rich Spanish heritage under the tutelage of their teachers. Morrow
Elementary Principal, Dr. Neema Coker, noted the participation of all
faculty and staff helps enrich the multitude of celebratory activities
in which students engage. Each morning in September, Dr. Coker presents
public address announcements that speak to various aspects of Hispanic
culture as a way of keeping the school community connected. Hispanic
Heritage activities will continue into October that will feature
students' art and writing projects. Pictured
are second grade students in Mrs. LaCruz's class with Dr. Coker,
showcasing one of the school's bulletin boards which depicts Hispanic
and Latino culture, fashions, and people who have helped shape the rich
heritage that we have come to know and appreciate, including activists,
athletes, authors, entertainers, and a female astronaut.
