Central Islip Schools Closed Monday, Tuesday

All schools will be shut down for a deep cleaning as a preventative measure against the coronavirus.

CENTRAL ISLIP, NY — The Central Islip school district announced on Friday that all schools will be closed on Monday and Tuesday in response to the coronavirus outbreak. There have been no confirmed cases of the disease in the Central Islip area, the district will be closing out of an abundance of caution in order to do a "comprehensive deep-cleaning of all high-contact" in all the buildings in order to prevent the spread of the virus, according to a letter from Superintendent Howard Koenig.

As of Friday, there have been 28 confirmed cases of the disease in Suffolk and 51 in Nassau County. The outbreak of the coronavirus has led to multiple school closures and event cancellations on Long Island.

The Central Islip school district also stated they will be canceling all field trips and building use by outside organizations for the "balance" of the school year. The SATs scheduled for Saturday has also been canceled as well as the production of Oliver at Central Islip High School.
