LI Couple Left Dead Pit Bull Chained Outside Overnight: Police

The 34-year-old man and his wife left the dead dog, along with another underweight pit bull, on 5-foot long chains, police say.

BRENTWOOD, NY - A Long Island man and his wife were arrested on Monday for keeping two pit bulls, one of which was dead, chained up outside overnight, according to Suffolk Police.

Officers responded to the Hancock Street, Brentwood home of 34-year-old Argelys Paulino and 37-year-old Elma Paulino at about 10:42 a.m. after a representative from Almost Home Dog Rescue reported that two dogs, one dead and one underweight, were chained on 5-foot long chains in the backyard of the home, police said.

The deceased dog named Bella, who was 3-years-old, was taken by the rescue group while the other dog, Arielle, also 3-years-old, was taken by Town of Islip Animal Control, police said.

The Paulinos were charged with violating Chapter 299 of the Suffolk County Code pertaining to the outdoor restraint of pets, police said. Both will be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on April 16.
