Firework Explodes, Kills Central Islip Man At July 4 Party: Police
The man was lighting a firework at a July 4 party when it exploded and struck him in the head, police said.
CENTRAL ISLIP, NY — A 37-year-old man was killed while lighting a firework at a July 4 party in Central Islip, Suffolk County police said.
Gabriel Ruiz-Urresto was lighting a firework in the backyard of his home on East Sycamore Street at about 9:30 p.m. Saturday when it exploded and struck him in the head, police said.
Ruiz-Urresto was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Suffolk County police Homicide Squad detectives are investigating the incident.
