HS Employee Under Fire After Tweeting About Evelyn Rodriguez
"The mom doesn't look so innocent...and the daughter who lost her life wasn't so innocent either," the employee wrote.

BRENTWOOD, NY - An employee of Brentwood High School is under fire for comments she made on social media following the death of Evelyn Rodriguez.
Last Friday Rodriguez, the mother of a teen who authorities say was murdered by MS-13 gang members in 2016, died after being struck by an SUV while at a memorial service for her daughter in Brentwood.
Following the incident, Rep. Peter King tweeted "Prayers for Evelyn Rodriguez the mother of MS-13 victim Kayla Cuevas. Evelyn was struck by vehicle this afternoon at her daughter's memorial."

One of the comments made by Twitter user Elizabeth Curran read: "Driver stayed at the scene. And if you look at the video, the mom doesn't look so innocent. Sorry for this horrible tragedy, but I work at Brentwood HS. And the daughter who lost her life wasn't so innocent either."

The school district released this statement regarding the tweets:

The Brentwood Union Free School District was recently made aware of an inappropriate and insensitive social media post made by one of its employees on their personal social media account. Our community was devastated by the tragic loss of Evelyn Rodriguez, and the employee’s post in no way represents the District’s position. The Brentwood School District administration continues to extend its sincerest condolences to Ms. Rodriguez’ family, friends and neighbors, and we have made grief counselors available to students and staff during this difficult time.
While social media posts on an employee’s personal account are their own opinions, we hold our staff and administration to a high level of moral standards. District administration will meet with the employee to review the District’s code of conduct, however it cannot comment further on personnel matters.
The Brentwood Board of Education was also made aware of the situation. In an email to a community member, the board stated that they are taking the matter seriously and are "committed to follow-up accordingly."
In addition, according to the email in light of the recent tragedy, the board canceled this week's board meeting, originally scheduled for Thursday night.
In another tweet, Curran accuses Cuevas of "antagonizing" the gang members:
