NYC Man, Shot In Drive-by In Central Islip, Charged After Firing Back: Police

CENTRAL ISLIP, NY — A man was arrested in connection with a shooting in Central Islip on Saturday, Suffolk police said.

Demetrius Williams was retrieving items from a parked vehicle, when a gray SUV drove past him on Hawthorne Avenue, near Feller Drive, at 6:10 a.m., and an unknown person in the SUV fired two shots at him, striking him in the foot, according to police.

He ran after the SUV and fired multiple shots at the vehicle, police said.

Patrol officers from the 3rd Precinct Patrol Division responded to a location on Hawthorne Avenue, where they arrested Williams, who was trying to flee in an alleyway, police said, and he was taken to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Williams, 39, of Brooklyn, was charged with first-degree reckless endangerment and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

He is being held at the Third Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Sunday.
