Pair Of Long Island Cops Rescue Woman And Her Chihuahua From Burning Home
The 84-year-old woman and her Chihuahua were carried to safety by the officers, Suffolk police said.
CENTRAL ISLIP, NY — An 84-year-old woman — unaware the second floor of her home was engulfed in flames — was rescued along with her dog by a pair of patrol officers in Central Islip on Saturday, Suffolk police said.
Police said 3rd Precinct officers Sergio Rivera and John Votta were responding to a 911 call on Rossmore Avenue when they saw smoke coming from the attic at about 3:20 p.m. The pair knew the woman "was living in the house and was unaccounted for so they gained entry to the home by breaking down the door," police said.
They ended up finding her on the first floor of the home, police said, adding that she was "unaware the second floor and attic were fully engulfed in flames."
