LI School Receives $500K Donation For Scholarship Program

BRENTWOOD, NY — A Long Island Catholic school recently received a generous donation from the Sisters of St. Joseph in Brentwood (CSJ), to expand financial assistance for its students.

Sacred Heart Academy, an all-girls school in Hempstead, obtained a $500,000 gift from CSJ to enhance its "Dear Neighbor" scholarship program, a representative announced last week. The gift will allow Sacred Heart to accept more applicants from a wider geographic region, including students from Nassau, Suffolk, Queens, and Brooklyn. It will also enable the school to offer additional partial scholarships and financial aid awards.

“This remarkable gift will position Sacred Heart to offer talented young women the opportunity to benefit from SHA’s unique faith-based mission and commitment to empower young women to lead with courage and compassion,” said Kristin Lynch Graham, Sacred Heart Academy president.

In addition to the scholarship program, Sacred Heart Academy offers merit-based scholarships and need-based scholarships and aid.

“Education is at the center of the CSJ ministry," said CJS's Sister Tesa Fitzgerald, president of the congregation and Sacred Heart Academy alumna. "We know that Sacred Heart will use the gift well in providing more financial aid to its students and we look forward to witnessing how this gift can be used to inspire others.”
