LI Woman Seriously Injured In Crash With Tractor Trailer: Police

BRENTWOOD, NY —A Brentwood woman was seriously injured in a crash with a tractor trailer early Sunday, police said.

According to Suffolk County police, the incident took place at about 3:20 a.m. on Suffolk Avenue and Wicks Road in Brentwood.

Karla Escoto Zavala, 21, was driving a 2010 Honda Civic westbound on Suffolk Avenue when her vehicle struck an eastbound 2017 Freightliner tractor trailer head on at the intersection of Wicks Road, police said.

Escoto Zavala was transported to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore for treatment of serious but non-life threatening injuries, police said. The driver of the Freightliner, Gurpreet Singh, 24, of Westbury, was not injured, police said.

The Honda was impounded for a safety check and the Freightliner was checked at the scene by Motor Carrier Safety Section officers; no charges were filed in the crash, police said.
