Driver Who Fled After Hitting Woman Helping Dog Arrested: Cops
The 36-year-old was arrested after hitting the woman who got out of her car to help an injured dog in the roadway, police say.

BRENTWOOD, NY - A Bay Shore man was arrested on Tuesday after he struck a woman who was on the road attempting to help a dog that was struck in Brentwood, according to Suffolk Police..
On Monday, a 36-year-old woman was driving a Ford sedan southbound on Fifth Avenue near Inchcape Road when she stopped to help an injured dog in the roadway.
Another southbound vehicle, described as a gray sedan, struck the woman after she exited her car. The sedan fled the scene without stopping.

The woman was transported to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore with non-life-threatening injuries. The dog died at the scene.
After an investigation, officers determined that 36-year-old Oscar Canales-Cruz was the driver of the 2007 Honda Civic that struck the woman, police said.

He was arrested at 4:50 p.m. and charged with leaving the scene of an incident with injuries as well as unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, police said.
His arraignment has not yet been scheduled.
