Man Charged With Shooting, Killing Homeless Man In C. Islip: SCPD

The 47-year-old was arrested on Monday in connection to the murder last week, police said.

CENTRAL ISLIP, NY - A Bay Shore man was arrested on Monday for shooting and killing a homeless man in Central Islip last week, according to Suffolk Police.

Enrique Vega Junior, 47, was charged second degree murder, third degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and fourth degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, police said.

Vega was held overnight at the Third Precinct and is scheduled for arraignment at First District Court in Central Islip on December 4.

CENTRAL ISLIP, NY - Suffolk Police are investigating the death of a homeless man who was found fatally shot in Central Islip on Monday morning.

Officers found a man, identified as Michael Evans, dead in the street on Suffolk Avenue, near Church Street, at 12:55 a.m.

It was determined that Evans had been shot.

Evans was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner.

Anyone with information on the death of Evans, who also uses Malik as a first name, is asked to call Homicide Squad detectives at 631-852-6392 or call anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
