Man Seriously Injured In Fourth Of July Fireworks Accident

CENTRAL ISLIP, NY — A Brookhaven man was seriously injured while lighting a firework in Central Islip on the Fourth of July, according to Suffolk Police.

The 29-year-old suffered a serious hand injury while lighting a firework at a home on Tamarack Street at 9:15 p.m.

The man was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of his injuries.

A 29-year-old man was also seriously injured when a firework exploded in his face on Saturday night in Port Jefferson Station.

Consumer fireworks are illegal in New York, but they were certainly abundant in Long Island skies Saturday night.

On average, 180 people go to the emergency room every day in the United States with fireworks-related injuries during the month around the Fourth of July holiday.
