No Screens, Just Smiles: Brentwood Kindergartners Celebrate National Day Of Unplugging

BRENTWOOD, NY — Kindergartners at East Elementary School discovered that sometimes the best learning happens when screens are turned off.

In honor of the National Day of Unplugging, students and their families gathered at the Brentwood school for an evening filled with hands-on activities designed to spark creativity, curiosity, and connection.

Children explored a variety of stations throughout the school, including Lego building, crafting homemade Play-Doh, designing projects in the art studio, and creating their own musical instruments. Students also participated in yoga, board games, and physical education activities.

One of the most popular attractions of the night was the Boxitects activity, where students used cardboard and recycled materials to design imaginative creations.

The only rule of the evening was simple: no electronic devices allowed.

Parents joined in the fun alongside their children, building, crafting, and playing together throughout the night. The lively atmosphere and enthusiastic participation kept students fully engaged, with many wishing the event could continue longer.

School officials said the evening reflected the core of the Brentwood kindergarten experience — a nurturing and playful environment where young learners explore, create, and grow while developing skills that will last a lifetime.
