Pedestrian Fatally Struck By Car After Falling In Roadway: SCPD

CENTRAL ISLIP, NY - A pedestrian was killed after being struck by a car early Sunday, according to Suffolk Police.

Mahendra Punai, 28, fell in the roadway and was struck by a 1999 Lexus that was traveling southbound on Wheeler Road near Janice Lane at 2:05 a.m., police said.

Punai, 28, of Richmond Hill, was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner, police said.

The driver of the Lexus, 19-year-old Amanda Ibarra, of Central Islip, was not injured.
