Residents Express Safety Concerns At Central Islip Train Station
What do you think? Is there a safety issue at the local station?

CENTRAL ISLIP, NY - Some commuters have expressed safety concerns at the Central Islip train station after a second track was added.
The issue began last year when the second track was added resulting in commuters having walk through an overpass or cross the roadway in order to get from the side where the ticket kiosk and parking lot are located to the opposite side where city-bound train leaves from.
According to a report in News12, some have witness commuters running across the road to catch the train while the crossing gate was down.

“No one should ever cross at a railroad crossing unsafely. If the gates are down, or are coming down, it isn’t worth the risk," the MTA said in a statement. "We encourage customers to cross using the overpass, or plan ahead to leave enough time to make the street-level crossing safely. The current location of upcoming trains is available via smartphone web browser at myLIRR.org."
In addition, the MTA is looking to cover the overpass to provide protection from the elements and prevent the buildup of snow and ice on the stairs.
