Brentwood's Antoinette Shervington Receives Congressional Recognition for Education from Congressman Andrew Garbarino
BRENTWOOD, NEW YORK (MARCH 2021)—Brentwood Union Free School District’s esteemed guidance counselor, Ms. Antoinette Shervington, was bestowed a congressional recognition for education, in conjunction with African American History Month, by New York’s 2nd Congressional District Congressman Andrew Garbarino. Antoinette’s prestigious acknowledgement includes a special invitation for Brentwood students to receive a virtual tour of the United States Capitol prior to the close of the current school year.
“Antoinette’s generous heart, coupled with her desire to serve others, has created a lasting impression that extends far beyond what is common for a school counselor,” said Superintendent of Schools Mr. Richard Loeschner. “It is without question that Antoinette consistently demonstrates her desire to make a positive and continuous impact on education within our buildings, as well as the Brentwood community. Antoinette’s ability to connect with students and staff alike has remained steadfast throughout this unprecedented school year. She undoubtedly raises the bar for future recipients of this distinction.”
Antoinette, a Brentwood employee since 1996, has been resolute in enabling all Brentwood students, regardless of individual differences, to acquire the educational, occupational and social competencies necessary to function in and contribute to a changing society. Throughout her 20+ years in the district, Antoinette has been an active advisor for the Freshman Center’s Girls Inc. program, served on the NYS Senator Advisory Planning Board for African-American Month under NYS Senator Monica Martinez, worked on the BHS Scholarship Committee, secured funding for students to participate in the Horseback Riding and Equestrian Studies program via the NYS Mounted Police Department, presents consistent opportunities for students to volunteer at clothing and food drives, and was named a 2020 recipient of the MLK Drum Major Award for Community Service via the Alpha Phi Alpha Historically Black College program.
