SCPD Cancels National Night Out Event Due To Weather Forecast
Suffolk County Police Department has canceled some National Night Out events and moved the Lake Grove event inside due to bad weather.

SUFFOLK COUNTY, NY — The Suffolk County Police Department has canceled most of its 2024 National Night Out events and moved the Lake Grove event indoors due to forecasts of bad weather.
National Night Out events planned in Brentwood, Wyandanch, Huntington Station, Holstville, Centereach, Lake Grove, and Mastic Beach – which also take place in other towns across the nation – are held to build partnerships and trust between police and the community.
They were scheduled to take place on Tuesday, August 6, in the evening.

The cancelation comes shorty after the National Weather warned that severe storms and flooding are possible throughout the Long Island region through the weekend, forecasters said Tuesday.
The Lake Grove event is still on will take place inside of Smith Haven Mall from 5 to 8 p.m.

Rain showers began to develop around noon on Tuesday, east to west, right down the middle of Long Island, forecasters reported.
As the rain continues to fall Tuesday afternoon and evening, about 1 to 2 inches are expected, with locally higher amounts possible.
