"We are taking every opportunity we can to connect with our communities and this is just another example of that partnership," commissioner Geraldine Hart said.

Fifth Precinct police officer Eileen Emiddio helped put the event together.

"Last year we had our first Prom Impact and then this year we invited 60 some-odd school districts around Suffolk," she said. "The community has been very supportive."

According to Emiddio, over half of the dresses were brand new, high-end dresses with the tags still on.

"I found a great prom dress and I feel very comfortable," Alayna Appolon, Wyandanch Memorial High School student said.

Central Islip High School student Venjamin Riveria said this event was needed for the people in the community who couldn't afford to buy a new outfit for prom.

"I'm very excited for this because I got everything I wanted and I'm going to look so good for prom, it's going to be terrific," Venjamin Riveria, Central Islip High School student said. "I'm in type of situation, I don't have a lot of money so like I said, this event is really great"
