Woman Drove Drunk, Crashed with 9-Year-Old Daughter in Car: SCPD

The 27-year-old and her daughter were both hospitalized after the crash Thursday night, police say.

MELVILLE, NY - A Brentwood woman was arrested for driving drunk after she was involved in a crash with her 9-year-old daughter in the car in Melville on Wednesday night, according to Suffolk Police.

Karlita Rojas-Reyes, 27, was driving a 2004 Acura eastbound on the Long Island Expressway when she lost control of the car and crashed into the median wall at 11:45 p.m., police said.

Both Rojas-Reyes and her daughter were transported to Huntington Hospital for treatment of minor injuries, police said.

The 9-year-old girl was then released to her grandfather.

Rojas-Reyes was charged with DWI, aggravated DWI with a child passenger 15-years-old or younger under Leandra’s Law and endangering the welfare of a child.

The vehicle was impounded.

She is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Thursday.
