Woman Struck By Hit-And-Run Driver While Helping Injured Dog

The 36-year-old pulled over to help the injured dog when she was hit by a car on Monday night.

BRENTWOOD, NY - A woman was struck by a hit-and-run driver while helping an injured dog in the roadway on Monday night, according to Suffolk Police.

The 36-year-old woman was driving a Ford sedan southbound on Fifth Avenue near Inchcape Road when she stopped to help an injured dog in the roadway at about 10:46 p.m.

Another southbound vehicle, described as a gray sedan, struck the woman after she exited her car.

The gray sedan then left the scene without stopping.

The woman was transported to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore with non-life threatening injuries.

The dog died at the scene.
