Police said the male victim and female victim were in a domestic relationship.
The woman's ex-boyfriend, who was armed with a handgun, approached the residence from the rear and forced entry through a sliding glass door.
The ex-boyfriend fired multiple shots at the couple, police said, adding that there was an exchange of gunfire, with either one or both of the victims firing at him.
Police said the mother of the male victim who was in a separate room at the time called 911.
The couple was hit by multiple gunshots.
The ex-boyfriend was also hit by multiple gunshots, including a wound to his head.
Police said his head wound may have been self-inflicted in an effort to commit suicide.
They were all were taken to area hospitals. The ex-boyfriend was pronounced dead at Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx.
The couple is in critical condition at another area hospital with life-threatening injuries.
All three people knew each other and were employed as correction officers with the Westchester County Department of Correction.
The deceased male suspect is Edward Quinoy, 40, of Tarrytown.
Police said the shooting was limited to the residence and no additional suspects are being sought.
Investigators recovered several handguns from the scene, but have not yet determined which victim fired at the suspect.
Yonkers police are working closely with county law enforcement partners and the investigation is on-going.
County Executive George Latimer issued a statement asking that the privacy of the victims be respected while they attempt to recover.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with these two correction officers and their fellow members of service during this extremely difficult time," he said.
